One Room Challenge – Spring 2021, Week 1: The Room?!?
HERE WE GO!
Hi Everyone! The time has finally come for us to start Day 1 of The One Room Challenge! I’ve been waiting for this moment for a while now and have had so many ideas and creativity flowing through my brain haha. If you’re new to One Room Challenge (ORC) it is a design event created by design blogger Linda Weinstein of Calling It Home. Across the nation 20 designers and guest designers are challenged with renovating a room in their home. I am so grateful to be apart of this group and for the next 8 weeks you will get a behind the scenes look into my design process from start to finish. In every post not only will you get to see the transformation but also the transformations of all the participants linked below!
Last year around this time of year, I decided to enter the ORC for the first time ever and tackled my living and dining rooms! It was one of the most rewarding experiences both personally for my family and even professionally. I still can’t believe the transformation.
Here’s the dramatic before and after! If you haven’t seen it or would like to revisit the transformation again click here Gray Space 2020 ORC
SOOOO… ARE YOU READY?!?
This year’s one room challenge I chose to transform my primary Bedroom and en-suite bathroom! I know… two rooms again?!? Am I insane? haha! Sometimes I can be, but this duo makes sense. Here’s why.
Our primary bedroom and bath never really felt complete, especially since my design style has evolved since first moving in. Over the years with making updates to the house, juggling the kids school schedules and activities, along with my husband and I being working professionals and business owners, we never had the chance to make it our personal oasis. We’ve bought a few items over the years; like a bed here and a lamp there... and held on to some furniture for what seems like forever… i.e. our dresser and nightstands are almost 15 years old... But we haven’t been really intentional and purposeful about designing this space. Also, since we are ALL home ALL of the time now.. my husband and I need a special place to call our own, no kids.. Just our special retreat! Here’s what our room looks like now.. well there’s laundry everywhere right now… but something like this.
As you can see the room is ok. But it’s time to transform it into our oasis!
Now let's get into this bathroom. Our en-suite bathroom is the only room left , that is original to the house, which was built back in 1961. Over the summer we noticed a leak in the kitchen which we initially thought was coming from the outside roof, but recently found out it was coming from the bathroom sink above, which means it needed to be repaired. Also, our shower is my least favorite part of the bathroom because of the dated tile and it’s size… it feels like a cave. Lastly, our bathroom is just no longer functional and we’re in desperate need of more storage. Here’s the before!
Guys.. the bathroom is GONE! That picture above is me standing in the demo’d bathroom. I can’t wait to show you the entire demo’d bathroom next week. In the meantime, I’m so excited to get started and get to work! This challenge is going to be so much fun and I can’t wait for you all to take this journey with me and follow along. To execute this challenge effectively, I will be using our Gray Space, five step process that we share with our design clients.
Step 1: Consultation
Step 2: Design Development
Step 3: Procurement
Step 4: Construction & Project Management
Step 5: Installation
We will get into Step 1 next week. Until then make sure you follow us on Facebook and Instagram with the hashtag #grayspaceorc to check out our progress.
