One Room Challenge – Spring 2021, Week 6 - Phase 4 Project Management

We have walls! Welcome back to week 6 of the ORC. I am happy to share that there are real walls up in our bathroom and that means that we are approaching the finish line! As we enter into Week 6, we are moving through our design process and are now in the middle of the Procurement and Project Management phase of our design process.

So we've been under construction for a few weeks now and if you've ever lived under a renovation you know that it's not without inconvenience and it's fair share of issues. After resolving the floor plan issues discussed in Week 3 Blog, we have run into a few bumps in the road including changing from a linear shower drain to standard round drain because a linear drain requires a custom shower pan and we won't have the time to have that fabricated. We also discovered from the electrician that we needed to put the new electric fireplace on its own circuit to avoid overloading existing circuits, which has now maximized all but one of the open circuits in our entire home. We need to eventually think about adding a new electrical panel for any additional circuits.

Along the way of stepping over 4' x 8' sheets of drywall, dust in between our toes from the rough electrical and plumbing and boxes of beautiful new furniture and bathroom fixtures, we decided to create storage niches to add additional space. ()

So now that the bathroom renovation is moving right along, I spent time this week with the Calico team selecting and ordering fabric for our window treatments. For the bathroom we chose the Kapoor - 81 Graphite since the design pattern really blends with our esthetic, graphic and black and white like the rest of our home. In the bedroom I decided on Soprano Silk in  Graphite for drapes in our bedroom for a relaxed and monochromatic style. For the pillows, we I decided to add a pop of color and to coordinate with the Apt2B Catalina chairs and selected the  Sangria Velvet The team over at Calico and I worked together seamlessly to determine my fabric needs and to really help bring the spaces together.

For the bedroom I’m ready to do a song and dance because we ordered our King Size Saatva Lineal Adjustable Base, classic mattress and sheet set. Rest is so important to me and having a proper space to spread out and unwind while being super comfortable was on my list of desperate needs.. Thankfully we were able to order the Saatva line of comfortable bedding products. The Lineal Lineal Adjustable Base allows me to adjust the bed so that I can read, elevate my legs, or just perfectly adjust for a great night's sleep. I’m also in love with the under bed illumination for the nights I sneak in from working late in the office.

The art pieces for both rooms were selected from Minted and I couldn’t be happier with these choosing. The Black Sand by Karly Rose Sahr wall art is the perfect piece for me to look at while soaking in the tub. The Warm Gold piece by Teodora Guererra adds a lighter tone to the bedroom and slightly mimics the texture of tile for the fireplace.

Issues: There was an additional hiccup of the tub being too big so we made one final revision to the bathroom floor plan to make the standing shower smaller to make up the difference.

Design Tip: As you see from the above issue I cannot stress enough the importance of having a floor plan. When working with our contractors they told us certain fixtures like the above  wouldn’t work in our space due to sizing issues. I was able to whip out the floor plan and because I had my measurements down to the tea, the contractor concluded that indeed the tub and shower would both fit.

Alright we will see you next week for install week! I’ll be painting, assembling furniture, and praying that construction will work out in my favor. Stay tuned and make sure you follow us on Facebook and Instagram and our #grayspaceORC to check out our progress.
