One Room Challenge – Spring 2021, Week 5 - Phase 2 & 3 The Bedroom Design Plan

Design Reveal: As mentioned in last week’s post I am going in a totally different direction on this project. More color, more color, more color! If you recall my mood board is centered around the sunset. With that, I couldn’t take my eyes off of these beautiful burgundy Apt 2B Catalina Chairs. They were the first pieces that I selected for our bedroom. Lately, I’ve been craving the warmth and boldness of red and the feel of sumptuously velvets and this chair was perfect. I love the contemporary silhouette of this chair, how wide it is and how comfortable it will be especially in front of our fireplace. I have selected one for me and one for hubby. I also selected our bed from Apt 2B! I decided on the Everett Upholstered Bed in the moody Onyx Velvet. This bed is a great focal piece for the layout of the design. It grounds the space perfectly. In addition to being beautiful, it was so easy to order both pieces. On Apt 2Bs website, I decided select which pieces I wanted, the fabric and the leg color and in three weeks, I had a custom bed and chairs right at my front door.

When thinking of the direction of the bedroom, I went back to my design questionnaire in the first Phase of our design process here at Gray Space, where I indicated how much I really wanted the room to feel like a relaxing getaway. I pushed to achieve that with colors, textiles and materials used and layout. Ok, so are you ready to see the new space? Drum roll please! Here is a look at my One Room Challenge design plan

Design Reveal: As mentioned in last week’s post I am adding in color, color and more color for this project! If you recall my mood board centered around the sunset. On Apt 2Bs website, I was able to select which fabric and the leg color I wanted and in four weeks, I had a custom bed and chairs right at my front door.

Speaking of custom, let’s talk about the fireplace. I have carried the Invisible Gray Polished Porcelain Tile from the bathroom into the bedroom to tie the two spaces together. I love adding a fireplace to make a space cozy and with his one I wanted to take the elegance up a notch by using this beautiful marble like porcelain tile. The gold accents really tie into the warm color palette of the sunset.

Also in the bathroom, I decided on the Components line of faucets and Purist bathroom fixtures by Kohler in the Matte Black finish for that additional pop. It feels timeless and of course with the Kohler brand, it will last for many years to come.

Details really matter in design and in considering this, I have decided to focus on and add those special touches to help achieve the luxurious feel desired. One example of this is the hardware selected for the bathroom, closet and bedroom doors. I partnered with the one and only Emtek for this selection! Emtek allows you to infuse your personality into door hardware. They have to many collections to choose from. I decided to bring in the Door Lever in Matte Black & Marble . Another special touch can be found in the accent pillows that I have selected throughout like the Antica Whitewash pillow by SWD Studios for our burgundy accent chairs.

The wall color I decided to go with is actually a lime wall paint by JH Wall Paint. For last year’s challenge I used a similar material on my living room’s fireplace called, roman clay. This time around I wanted the same a natural matte, velvet finish but with less texture and an easy application. The JH Wall Paint Lime wash in color 9546. It’s such a rich warm color that has a textured but smooth nd velvety finish. Here’s one of my favorite inspirational images from their website using the 9543 color.

Ok, so no oasis space is complete without the perfect mattress and box spring and I have found the one! I recently partnered with Saatva for a recent show-house project and got to experience the magic of their Classic Innerspring Mattress first-hand. It is soooo comfortable and after consulting with the Saatva team, I learned that the best fit for my husband and I is the luxury firm comfort level.

Ok that’s a great bit of detail about the bedroom design plan, so I’ll pause here until next week where I am sharing all of the details of our renovation progress! It’s nail biting, but very exciting!
